Chicken Parmesan is a delicious, comforting dish that’s perfect for dinner. Here’s a classic recipe for you to try.
Ingredients:
- For the Chicken:
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (Italian style preferred)
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup olive oil (for frying)
- For the Sauce:
- 2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- For Assembly:
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Chicken:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place the chicken breasts between two sheets of plastic wrap or parchment paper and pound them to an even thickness (about 1/2 inch thick).
- Set up three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of breadcrumbs, 1 cup grated Parmesan, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Dredge each chicken breast in the flour, then dip in the eggs, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture. Press the breadcrumbs onto the chicken to ensure they stick.
- Cook the Chicken:
- Heat 1/4 cup of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Fry the chicken breasts for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crispy. You may need to do this in batches depending on the size of your skillet.
- Once cooked, transfer the chicken to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Make the Sauce:
- In a small saucepan, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Pour in the marinara sauce, add dried basil, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer the sauce for about 5 minutes.
- Assemble and Bake:
- Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce in the bottom of a baking dish.
- Place the fried chicken breasts on top of the sauce.
- Spoon more marinara sauce over each chicken breast, then top with shredded mozzarella and a sprinkle of grated Parmesan.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve:
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves, if desired.
- Serve the Chicken Parmesan hot, with a side of pasta, salad, or garlic bread.
Enjoy your delicious homemade Chicken Parmesan!
