Charred Brussels Sprouts

Here’s a recipe for Charred Brussels Sprouts:

Ingredients:

  • 500g Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (optional for sweetness)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F) to get a nice high heat for charring the Brussels sprouts.
  2. Prepare the Brussels Sprouts:
Trim the ends off the Brussels sprouts and cut them in half. If you have any extra-large sprouts, quarter them to ensure they cook evenly.
  3. Season the Sprouts:
In a large bowl, toss the Brussels sprouts with olive oil, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Make sure they are evenly coated.
  4. Roast the Brussels Sprouts:
Spread the Brussels sprouts in a single layer on a baking sheet, cut side down. This ensures the flat side gets nice and crispy. Roast in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until they are charred and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
  5. Add Sweetness and Glaze (Optional):
After about 15 minutes of roasting, you can drizzle the Brussels sprouts with balsamic vinegar and honey/maple syrup for a sweet and tangy glaze. Toss them and return them to the oven for the remaining time.
  6. Optional Finishing Touches:
Once out of the oven, sprinkle the roasted Brussels sprouts with grated Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes for an extra kick of flavor. You can also drizzle more balsamic vinegar for an extra tangy finish.
  7. Serve:
Serve immediately while crispy. These are perfect as a side dish or snack!

Tips:

  • You can also char the Brussels sprouts in an air fryer for quicker results.
  • To ensure maximum crispiness, avoid overcrowding the baking sheet. Use two sheets if needed.

Enjoy these crispy, caramelized Brussels sprouts as a healthy side or snack!
